Having Shoulder Pain? A Guide to Physiotherapy Treatment for Relief

Stiff Shoulders Pain Causes, Symptoms and Relief Treatment

What is Shoulder Pain Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy aims to relieve pain and treat the condition through methods such as manual therapy, massage therapy, manipulation, and exercises. Physiotherapists are experts in human anatomy and are experts in matters relating to muscles, bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments.  Physiotherapy does not involve any medication or surgery but our physiotherapists can refer you to a specialist and work closely with them if necessary.

Are you experiencing Shoulder Pain?

Physiotherapy for treatment could be the solution. Sore Shoulder is one of the more common regional pain syndromes that affects around 26% of adults at any point in time. Using the same repetitive movement or manual labour may also cause shoulder aches, even athletes could overstress their shoulder muscles or joints.

If you experience shoulder pain, it is important to seek treatment or further advice from a certified doctor or physiotherapist before the issue deteriorates. Contact us or click on the WhatsApp button to speak with us.

Common Shoulder Conditions

Here are some common conditions causing shoulder pain are inflamed or damaged tendons, over usage, frozen shoulder, arthritis, biceps tendon rupture and other causes. Uncertain of your condition? Visit us for an assessment and we will help you figure it out.

It is important to seek medical advice from a physiotherapist to get an accurate diagnosis of your shoulder condition. Only after getting an accurate diagnosis will you be able to apply the appropriate treatment methods to resolve the pain. Instead of self-diagnosing and risking the chance of an inaccurate diagnosis, it would be better to consult with our physiotherapists.

Physiotherapy Provides More than Just Immediate Shoulder Pain Relief

During your first session, your physiotherapist will run a thorough assessment to accurately determine the cause of your pain. Afterwhich, your physiotherapist will help to provide immediate pain relief through manual therapy, Shoulder Massage Therapy by releasing tight knots/ shoulder tension or reducing the compression in your shoulder. This will ensure that you will walk out of our door in significantly less pain than when you first came to us.

Here at Core Concepts Physiotherapy Singapore, we practice a value-based healthcare system – where we aim to maximize your rehabilitation potential. Our goal is to get you feeling better at the soonest with as few sessions as possible. During your first session, your physiotherapist will also find out more about your treatment goals and develop a treatment plan that is suited to your needs.

Instead of only fixing the obvious symptoms, we dive deeper to find out the root cause of your pain. We work on resolving that as well to ensure that the pain does not return. Your treatment plan will also include fixing the root cause of your shoulder and arm pain to ensure that it does not trigger again.

Apart from simply providing shoulder pain relief, in some cases, we can maximise your rehab potential. Going beyond what you were capable of doing before the incident. You may have been able to stretch your arm to a certain degree before feeling pain previously. You may have started going for physiotherapy after straining your shoulder. We can help you to do better than simply going back to how you were before. You could aim to stretch even further without discomfort.

I’ve been visiting Core Concepts for some time and my experience with them has been great so far. My physiotherapist, Wei Juan, has been really helpful in fixing my neck and shoulder issues. She will also share relevant self exercises to ensure my muscles/ joints are not tensed up, which usually is due to my desk bound occupation. She is also friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to answer any physio related queries I have. Overall a good experience and highly recommended!

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Shoulder Pain

Seeking a physiotherapist as early as possible would allow a more efficient recovery period. Very often, delaying treatment can cause the condition to worsen over time as it causes scar tissue buildup which can make it more challenging to treat. If you are experiencing shoulder pain that is severe and limiting your movement, do seek treatment immediately.

We are unable to answer this unless we conduct a physical assessment for you. However, we have had many successes with clients who were experiencing frozen shoulders and they were able to regain motion. Do give us a call to set up an appointment to consult with our physiotherapists

Some precautions can be taken to prevent shoulder pain such as warming up before you work out or starting slow if you haven’t done a specific activity in a while. Listen to your body, if it starts to hurts when you exercise or do a certain activity – stop the activity. If the pain doesn’t go away, see a doctor or a certified physiotherapist immediately.

The shoulder is one of the most flexible joints in the body that allows us the widest range of movement, as a result, they are also the most unstable joint, making the shoulder prone to injuries. To determine what is causing your shoulder pain, our physiotherapists would need to conduct an assessment before coming up with a diagnosis for your pain. After determining the diagnosis, we will be able to run through your physical activities to conclude how the pain occurred.

Depending on your condition, your shoulder pain may recover with sufficient rest and care. If it is a simple shoulder strain from exercising, you could experience a dull ache that goes away with time. However, if you are experiencing a sharp pain that limits your movement (eg: unable to move shoulder past a certain height) it would be advised to seek medical advice to determine if the condition is serious or not. If you have been experiencing shoulder pain for a prolonged period of time (more than a few weeks) that doesn’t seem to get better – do make arrangements to seek medical advice to determine the cause of your pain.
