About Samuel

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family. Having spent most parts of the day at work, I find it really precious and important to spend time with my loved ones and having a chat about how their day is and listening to the interesting happenings at their workplace is something that I enjoy doing. Even if it is just sitting around and watching a Korean drama together, it is just as enjoyable. I have a keen interest in tennis and muay thai. Formally practicing muay thai at Fight works Asia 6 times a week and tennis 3 times a week. Love traveling, especially to Thailand and Taiwan because of their endless supply of good food.

What inspired you to become a physiotherapist?

I knew that a desk bound job was not what I wanted. I did not want to wake up in the morning to get to a job and spend the next 8-10 hours in front of a screen. So my family suggested why don’t I try physiotherapy, where I can get a constant interaction with people and be useful to the society at large. I said why not? So I enrolled into the course and in the very first week of the semester, I fell in love with every module I had to take. Physiotherapy is something that is ever changing and evolving just as medical science is. Every single patient that I meet will never have the same problem and I’d always be challenged to investigate and find out why and how the problem occurred and how to treat it. After practicing for more than one and a half years, I decided to do my masters in clinical physiotherapy to equip myself with better and more tools to diagnose and treat my patients.

How was your experience when you went to take your Masters in physiotherapy in Australia and what are some of the challenges you faced?

It was the most challenging study period I’ve ever encountered. Living away and apart from family members was not easy, learning to be independent while studying also wasn’t easy but the most challenging part came from undertaking the course modules. Learning to understand and help people with chronic pain was extremely challenging and in fact, still is an uphill task. The tools that were taught to us required us to be highly skilled and sharp with our questioning and manual handling abilities. It pushed us to not just be a physiotherapist but a practitioner at an advanced level, and be proficient at providing services to a wider array of pathologies. That being said, meeting other physiotherapist from different cultures and backgrounds made the course extremely enriching and fun at the same time. I believe that everyone on the course enjoyed the challenges thrown at us and we actually embraced the steep learning curve.

Name one item you cannot live without

I can’t live without my phone. I spend my time reading books on it when I’m traveling. That always helps to pass time. Also it keeps me connected to all my friends around the world, especially after the masters, friends from as far as Norway, Russia, Brazil and Israel all their contacts are inside and I like keeping in touch w them.
