Your Physiotherapy & Functional Wellness Partner
Established in 2003, Core Concepts is the largest private physiotherapy group in Singapore with a team of specialist physiotherapists, occupational therapists, sports massage therapists and sports trainers. In addition to providing home base therapy, talks, workshops and corporate workplace health consultancy work, the group operates 8 clinics centrally located across the island.
We manage the health of your body’s bones, muscles and other components of the body’s musculoskeletal system, that provides form, stability, and movement to the human body. The musculoskeletal system consists of the body’s bones (skeleton), muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints, and other connective tissue that holds your organs in place.
We differentiate ourselves by not simply seeing the problem through possible solutions, but rather with understanding your condition first. This is called clinical or differential diagnosis.
“If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.”Abraham Maslow
The Core Concepts Physiotherapy group consists of several divisions or areas of focus specialising in different areas of the musculoskeletal system.
Our patients come from all over the country, the surrounding region and quite a few come abroad just for their treatments. It is not uncommon for some of our patient residing overseas to by for treatment as they transit through Singapore. So why do more people choose Core Concepts than any other private centres in Singapore?
We are the largest musculoskeletal rehabilitation group in Singapore because we recognised the need for a group of people with different specialities to come together. Modern medicine today is no longer works best in siloed environments. Conditions are often complicated that are caused by multiple factors and affect multiple areas of the human body.
Complicated conditions are best treated in a multi-speciality setting. It allows your Attending Therapist to consult his or her colleagues more widely and present you a more comprehensive range of treatments possible.
You often notice that something is wrong when you feel pain. Pain is a symptom and an important signal that something is not quite right. However, it is not the cause of the problem. That is why at Core Concepts our first step is to determine the cause of the problem and to peel back the layers of interlocking causes. (See “Multiple Layers of Pain“)
At Core Concepts, we believe in the ‘Thinking Physiotherapist®‘. We back up that belief with a substantial investment on our part to keep current of the latest thoughts and practices.
We approach each case with no pre-conceived ideas on what the problems are. Musculoskeletal conditions are often complex in nature; usually with more than one cause interacting at many different levels. (see case study)
Our ability to treat patients better and faster is first and foremost dependent on our ability for effective differential diagnosis. Differential diagnosis is the systematic method healthcare used to identify the disease that is causing a patient’s symptoms. In other words, part of the diagnosis is attempting to narrow down the list of possible diagnoses until one emerges as the best. The term differential evolves from the word differences. The concept of differential diagnosis involves observing and discovering signs and symptoms, then progressively considering the most likely illnesses, then continuously narrowing down the possible diagnoses, eliminating one after another, until one is left with only one specific diagnosis for the patient’s signs and symptoms.
Differential Diagnosis is the process whereby a given condition or circumstance, called the presenting problem or chief complaint, is examined in terms of underlying causal factors and concurrent phenomena as discerned by appropriate disciplinary perspectives and according to several theoretical paradigms or frames of reference and compared to known categories of pathology or exceptionality.
One-on-One Treatment Setting
At Core Concepts, each patient has their own unique appointments slot. We do not “overbook” patients at any time slots. This means that each time is treated in an unhurried manner during their appointed times and is attended by a single attending physiotherapist. During that appointment time, the patient is not left unattended at a machine while the physiotherapist attends to another patient.
