Bellyfit – Prenatal Exercise Class
Pregnancy is a fascinating time when your body’s shape and needs change constantly as your pregnancy progresses. These changes create new and different demands on your muscles and joints. It is essential that your prenatal exercise routine accommodate these new challenges and assist in providing better support for you and your baby.
As your pregnancy progresses several things happen:
- Your abdominal muscles are weakened from stretching, leading to back and hip pain.
- Your pelvic floor muscles also gradually weaken and may cause incontinence during late pregnancy.
- Your pelvic ligaments gradually become lax to enable to the widening of the birth canal. However, these make the pelvis more unstable, and the surrounding back and pelvic muscles work harder to maintain the stability of the pelvis in place of the ligaments. These may lead to more fatigue and strained back and pelvic muscles.
The BellyFit™ programme works several muscles groups at the same time, concentrating on strengthening and stabilizing the core. The core consists of the abdomen, back, and pelvic girdle region.
With its carefully controlled approach, BellyFit will not only help to improve your core strength, but also your balance, coordination and the quality of your movement, without placing stress on your joints. Your body awareness will also increase. And you will learn to relax and breathe correctly which is be beneficial in labour and your baby’s birth.
Benefits of the BellyFit™ programme include:
- Reduce pregnancy-related back and pelvic strains
- Better support for the weight of the baby and your spine from improved core strength
- Reduce leakages with better control of your pelvic floor muscles
- Better balance and coordination of your body and limbs
- Better relaxation with regular application of fl owing movements and breathing techniques
- Better efficacy of your body in extracting and delivering oxygen and nutrients to the baby
- Prepare your body to recover from labour and to regain your figure faster and safer
The BellyFit Programme is conducted in a small group (up to 6 persons) with an experienced women’s health physiotherapist as the instructor. Our classes are deliberately kept small so as to better cater to your needs and allow for quality personal guidance during the class.
