About Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a health profession concerned with the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of disease and disability through physical means. It is based upon principles of medical science, and is generally held to be within the sphere of main-stream (conventional rather than alternative) medicine.
Physiotherapists in some jurisdictions, such as the Australian states, enjoy professional autonomy, with the ability to act as primary care providers and to determine – and be responsible for – a patient’s management plan.
The major conditions managed by physiotherapists can be broadly grouped into three categories: musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary and neurological.
Core Concepts specialises in the first category – musculoskeletal conditions.
Physiotherapy is based on principles of medical science and it is not related to any specific “technique” as typically associated with some of the alternative medicine treatments.
Physiotherapy as a health professional field employs any medically proven technique that is effective and “documentation-based” i.e. verifiable results from research and tests.
The Australian Physiotherapy Association has a series of high quality Patient Information Cards in a handy format (PDF) that address an injury/condition and educates accordingly. They also provide safe advice on how to look after the injury/condition and its best management thereafter.
